Competitive dynamics between teenagers are universal, as demonstrated by Jocelyn Bioh’s play, School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play. Set in 1980s Ghana, the play centers around Paulina, a queen bee who assumes she’ll win the Miss Ghana pageant until newcomer Ericka arrives and threatens her popularity. The Pittsburgh Public Theater show first premiered in New York in 2017, and will run at the O’Reilly Theater.
