Featuring: Kevin Lee Sun, piano In his Duquesne debut recital as piano faculty member, Kevin Lee Sun performs Frederic Rzewski's hour-long masterpiece for solo piano, The People United Will Never Be Defeated! (1975). A set of 36 variations on the eponymous Chilean chant for social change, Rzewski's work manifests a Cold War-era geopolitical turmoil that still resonates with us today. Sun's introductory remarks to begin his recital will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1973 military coup in Chile that deposed democratically elected President Salvador Allende.
