George Orwell is probably the most well-known English writer of the twentieth century, with vast sales of his books continuing through the twenty-first century. His name and many of the phrases that he coined are now a part of everyday English, his novels Animal Farm and 1984 the most taught in secondary school, and his essays the most taught in college composition. In their discussion, Jeffrey Williams will unpack myth from reality and give an overview of what Orwell wrote, and Steve Gotzler will unfold Orwell’s strong anti-fascist views and the situation in Europe in the 1930s and 40s.
